The FamilySearch Indexing network has been having problems for the past now 3 days. They are still trying to pinpoint the problem.
The problem is not your computers or the program. It’s totally on their end. It’s a problem with the program not connecting to their servers which causes it to hang up the program and crash. You’ll have to probably go into System Manager on your computer by Ctrl+Alt+Delete and select the indexing program and close it down manually.
So far today I haven’t been able to log on. It gives a server not available error.
Oh and contrary to what support says in other groups… the indexing program runs just fine on the latest Java updates. I keep my Java updated at the latest update all the time and the program runs just fine. Please keep your computer updated with the latest Java and keep yourself protected. Running a lower version of Java puts you at a security risk for hackers. Don’t roll back your Java version to 6 just to run the program when it works just find on Java 11. FamilySearch is the one who needs to upgrade. If you absolutely find the need to use Java 6 then you can install it with Java 11 as well. But trust me when I say you don’t need to.
From Java Site:
Keeping old and unsupported versions of Java on your system presents a serious security risk.
The latest available version is compatible with the older versions. However, some Java applications (or applets) can indicate that they are dependent on a particular version, and may not run if you do not have that version installed. If an application or web page you access requires an older version of Java, you should report this to the provider/developer and request that they update the application to be compatible with all Java versions.
http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp checks to see what version you have installed and tells you what version is currently available. Version 11 is available at this time.
