Okay so I’ve been working on the US Pennsylvania Philadelphia Passenger Lists which are the highest priority for me for arbitrating today.
Here’s some of the things indexers are messing up:
- 6 batches returned to be finished for not indexing the crossed out names belonging to the ship whether crossed out or not are to be indexed.
- 3 batches returned because the indexer didn’t finish the batch. There were more than 10 records on it. Someone needs to learn how to add records for this project. For those who are going to ask… no I’m not finishing their work for them. It’s not my job. Indexers can read the rules and learn the project just like everyone else who does these correctly. If they can’t they shouldn’t be indexing. Stakes and Groups shouldn’t be pushing members to index when they don’t understand it or have no interest in it. Numbers are not the important part… quality is.
- Next batch… for Nationality / Place of Birth field you type what is written. US America is just that not America. Do not expand abbreviations. If there’s an abbreviation with periods like U.S.A. then it’s indexed as U S A if it didn’t have the periods and no spaces then put it as USA. Periods mean a space.
- Next batch… sent it back for another arbitrator to do. I couldn’t even read it properly.
- 3 batches… yah! only spelling differences!
- 2 batches put in genders when the column was left blank. No genders in column then mark the fields Ctrl+B for Blank. Do not type blank in the field either please!
- 1 batch - Do not include titles with the names. We are not indexing titles in this project. Titles include: Mr, Mrs, Miss, Master
- 2 batches - If infant is written in the age column instead of 0 then we use Ctrl+B and mark it blank. Infant can be anyone up to the age of adulthood. Most cultures it’s up to age 18.
- 1 batch - Do not expand names such as Wm D is not William D leave it abbreviated. How do you know that Wm is William? What if it was Wilhelm?
- 2 batches - Do not include S.S. with the ship name.
