Remember when indexing or arbitrating ANY marriage records to watch for alternate spellings of the names. Most marriage records have more than one spot for the names; They'll usually give the names at the top and then it'll say "solemnized between us" where they usually signed their names double check this spot to make sure of different spellings . The following projects all have more than one spot: Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, UK Derbyshire, UK Dorset, UK Sussex, UK Lancashire, US County Marriages, Canada Marriages. When there's alternate spelling in 2 or more spots on a record we are to be using the word "or" inbetween the names not choosing the one we think is best. Example: Elizabeth vs Elisabeth would be "Elizabeth or Elisabeth". If a name is abreviated and then spelled out in full on the same record this is not an alternate spelling, in this case we are to be using the full spelled out version of the name. Example Wm vs William would be just indexed as "William". This goes for given or surnames. This also applies to WWI Draft Card project.
