Project Updates and Additional Helps Questions and Answers:
- Q. How do we index aliases? A. To index a name that has one or more aliases or uses an AKA, type the word or between each name. For example, if an individual’s name is listed as “Joseph Broski AKA Joseph Browzowski AKA Jozef Brzozowski,” you would type the following:
- Blank Lines (Jan 17) - Since we are not capturing the line number, please index all names on the document ignoring blank lines and mark remaining records (if any) as <blank> at the end of the batch.
- Names (Jan 17) - Names recorded twice - http://goo.gl/ZUr0c
- Widows (1/13) - How to index widows with only a husband's name - http://goo.gl/i7bEU
Other observations made by indexers / arbitratiors: These are not official and questions / observations should be posted on the wiki if none of the above already cover these.
- If you are indexing or arbitrating the 1890 census of Union Veterans and Widows and can't quite make out the name of the city, town or township for the header, check at the bottom of the form under post office address. It is sometimes written more clearly.
